Tool #9

  1. Why do you think it is important to tie the technology to the objective? Most students are more adept at communicating and interacting through technology than many teachers. To be effective as a teacher, we must be able to interact in like manner to engage the students.
  2. Why should we hold students accountable for the stations/centers? The students need to take ownership of the facilities, tools, and processes of their own individual educations. By being accountable for the equipment, they will in turn learn to be accountable for the education.
  3. Visit 2 of the applicable links to interactive websites for your content/grade level. Which sites did you like. How could you use them as stations? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations? The SBISD databases contain tools to help the students take a hands-on approach to learning. Thinkfinity is a site that will encourage the student to set challenges for him/herself, thus increasing educational ownership.
  4. List two to three apps you found for the iPod Touch/iPad that you can use in your classroom. What do you see that station looking like? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations? I am still afraid of the iPad. I have not been able to play with it for fear of breaking it.
  5. What about other ways to use the iPod Touch/iPad? Share another way you can see your students using the device as a station. The only think I can really think of is in small-group research activities. Of course, many of the tools found in this training could be used, but I am really uncomfortable with all of this.
